Her work has received acclaim at film festivals such as the Jeonju International Film Festival and the Asian American Film Festival, among others. Her short film Wednesdays won the Best Female Student Director Award at the Indie Shorts Awards Seoul.

While treasuring her Asian identity, Hae Seoung has been trying to break racial and social barriers with her works. Her films feature a diverse array of characters, including a hearing-impaired individual, a Korean adoptee, a mixed-race couple, and Japanese comfort women. Her portrayal of these characters is grounded in authenticity, offering a thoughtful and nuanced perspective. Above all, when Hae Seoung makes a movie, the first thing she does is fall in love with its characters.
